the seeds are safe!

this fascinated me today. thought i would share.

a "doomsday" vault has been opened in svalbard, norway. this vault holds many of the seeds of plants from all over the world in case something horrible happens to the world....life can still grow!

so, a bunch of people [or a few] got together one day and they were like, "what if a huge bomb came and killed all of the plants on earth? we should probably do something about that!" so they built this huge vault in the middle of nowhere! to me, it makes me feel good knowing that there are smart people coming up with things like this.

the best part about this whole story [ok maybe not the best part] but this town that the vault is in, is so remote that the people in the community are required by law to carry a gun when they leave the town limits because of the polar bears in the area. how crazy is that?

ok i'm done.

we can all sleep tonight...the seeds are safe.

Haha. "The seeds are safe."

I really like the gun and polar bears! Who knew? I guess I take my safety for granted. Thanks Sara...you're a delightful part of life.

I actually came up with this idea several decades ago, and have my own vault of seeds (I also made a cacao plant for producing chocolate that is preserved in its own special vault). Then there's the coffee beans. . .
